THE NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE
Following the National Health Service Act, 1946, the National Health Service, a form of compulsory unselfishness, was inaugurated on 'The Appointed Day', 5th July 1948, and the country's hospitals, with few exceptions, passed to its control. A wealth of morbidity was uncovered in the country as free medical care became available to all.
