The premises were converted into a hospital for Norwegian merchant seamen who were unable to return to Norway after the country was occupied in April 1940.

The Norwegian Seamen's Hospital opened in mid-1940 with 45 beds.

It closed at the end of the war in 1945.

Present status (March 2013)

In January 1947 the Norwegian Y.W.C.A. re-opened the building and it remains in use today.
