Maternity
In 1946 the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Hospital bought the Hampstead Nursing Home at 40 Belsize Grove.  Queen Mary opened it in 1948 as the Garrett Anderson Maternity Home, with 27 beds.

The Hospital closed in 1977 and the building was squatted.  In September that same year an 80-strong police force raided the squat early in the morning, kicking down almost every door.  Eleven of the 40 people living there were arrested, but only three were charged - for possession of small amounts of cannabis.

Present status (April 2008)
The Hospital building has been demolished and the site now contains townhouses.
