Geriatric
In 1963 Hill Homes Ltd erected a purpose-built single-storey home for the chronically ill elderly in the garden at the rear of Whittington, a home for the elderly which it managed on behalf of the King's Fund.

The new home opened in 1964 as Goldsmiths' House, named after the Goldsmiths' Company, which had contributed £50,000 towards the costs of the development.

In July 1967, when the Whittington Home transferred to the control of the Archway Group Hospital Management Committee, Hill Homes Ltd was compensated by being given the freehold of a large piece of its garden, which included the site of Goldsmiths' House.

By 1974 half of the 30 beds in the Home were assigned to the consultant geriatrician at the Whittington Hospital.

The Home closed in the late 1980s.

Present status (February 2009)

The buildings were demolished and, in 1990, a new nursing home built in their place.

Newstead Nursing Home
The site of Goldsmiths' House is now occupied by the Newstead Nursing Home.
