St Gabriel's Church, on the corner of Balfour Road, opened in 1931 as one of the 40 'new churches for London'.  The church complex was only partially built - in particular, planned halls and offices on its north side were never built.  "A very small part of the proposed hall complex was built, consisting of lavatories and a kitchen, plus two small meeting rooms and associated storerooms.  To this was added, at a later date, a small wooden hall.  The whole complex is currently let to a nursery school."
