After the war, between 1945 and 1947, Hill Homes Ltd bought three more properties to convert into homes for the frail elderly.  One of these was No. 22 Shepherds Hill.

The home was later renamed Nuffield Lodge, in gratitude for a contribution of £5,500 from the Nuffield Foundation.

In 1975 Hill Homes registered as a housing association, which enabled it to obtain planning permission to rebuild Nuffield Lodge as an apartment block with self-contained apartments.

In 1978 the old house was demolished and a new building erected on its site.  The Housing Corporation had provided some £395,000 towards the project costs.

The new Nuffield Lodge opened in October 1981 with 24 studio or one-bedroom apartments.

Present status (February 2009)

The Lodge continues to provide retirement homes and sheltered housing for the elderly.  Residents must be over 60 years of age.
