The Potters Bar V.A.D. Hospital opened in 1914 in Little Heath Wood House, a large country mansion.  The owner of the house, Mrs McDowell Nathan, also provided milk and garden produce for the staff and patients.

The Hospital had 18 beds and was run by the local Voluntary Aid Detachment.  It was well supported locally by subscriptions and weekly pound days.  £100 had also been donated to the Hospital.

It presumably closed in 1919.

Present status (April 2011)

The property later became the Nurses' Home for Potters Bar and District Hospital.

It has since been demolished and Gresley Court occupies its site.

Gresley Court, as seen from the Great North Road.  The original driveway off the Great North Road is no more, but some of the original wall of the estate remains (left).  The old wall along Hawkshead Road bears the legend 'Gresley Court' in large, but indistinct lettering (right).
