ALMSHOUSES OF LONDON
|
---|
In 1952 the charity funds of Colfe's Almshouses and the Catford branch of Hatcliffe's Almshouses were amalgamated. The Colfe and Hatcliffe Glebe was built in 1962 to replace the two almshouses. The building is located just to the north of the site of the former Colfe's Almshouses, but on the opposite side of the road. The building was refurbished in 1992 and again in 2002. It contains 12 self-contained apartments for those aged 60 years or over, who are capable of independent living.
Current statusThe almshouses remain active and are managed by the Lewisham Parochial Almshouse Charities. Because of the Colfe connection, two of the trustees of the charity are appointed by the Leathersellers Company. |

The building fronts onto Lewisham High Street. The entrance is on Lewisham Park in what looks like an extension to the main building. |
