In July 1967 Homfray House was opened by Hill Homes Ltd as replacement accommodation for the elderly residents of Stanhope Lodge, which then closed.

The property, a large mansion next door to Trees, had been the home of Frederick Homfray, a retired director of the carpet maker Homfray & Co Ltd and a personal friend of Mrs Margaret Hill, the founder of Hill Homes.  When he died in 1965 he bequeathed the property to Hill Homes.

The Home closed in 2008, when plans were made to demolish it and the adjoining Trees, and to build a new extra-care apartment block for the elderly on their sites.

Present status (May 2015)

The new Trees opened in 2011.
